Hitchcock

I thought , Hitchcock would be around the life and times of great Alfred Hitchcock , the film maker of Rope, The Rear Window, Psycho, Foreign Correspondent, North by Northwest etc etc. however the movie was all around the making of his mega success in the later part of his career " PSYCHO".  In his sixties , people started to believe that Hitchcock had lost his touch, but he was a genius, Film making was in his blood. He understood the taste of people. Anthony Hopkins was as usual great in the role of Hitchcock and acted very nicely. The main challege for him was to deliver dialogues in a very different manner ( not in a typical Hopkins way) and he acted religiously. Besides his make up over his lips , everything was perfectly set. The movie focussed on the committment and belief of Hitchcock on his art. He was temporarily disturbed by a typical woman behaviour of his wife , however got strength when he realised that it was his mis understanding and with the help of his wife , he did one of the best editing of his career and made the movie a great success. His challege to Paramount pictures, indifference towards people's opinion etc were remarkable. The last scene of the movie may be an Indication of the sequel , .. 

Lincoln : Wastage of time by Spielberg

The goodwill of Steven Spielberg is the only factor which made "LINCOLN' a hit movie.  The movie got favourable response in America , however it was not a wide acclaimed movie in the rest of the world.  There are many things which make this movie a very ordinary one :

1. Title : Entire movie was revolving around passing the historical 13th Amendment in the constitution by the house of representatives of United States. Spielberg knew , if he choses any other title excluding "LINCOLN" , the movie will never attract viewers. 99 out of 100 viewers would have thought that the movie must depict the life and times of Lincoln. However, it was only about the role of A.Lincoln in passing the 13th Amendment. Hence the title is highly inappropriate and may not satisfy the movie lovers.
2. Darkness : I dont know why all successful directors prefer to show a tidy darkness throughout the movie. There was no sign of sunlight in the movie. All the scenes covering Lincoln were in a weird darkness. I understand that Spielberg might want to show it like a black and white movie , however darkness is not the only solution.
3. Lack of Joy and Enthusiasm :  The movie does not create curiosity among the viewers about the events. Viewers are forced to see what is shown by the spielberg. A few good scenses were there , but taking a holistic approach, viewers feel unrest throughout the movie.

Spielberg is not only an intelligent director, he is a good businessman and knows how to attract viewers to cinemahall and bind themt to buy DVD from the market. If we remember his creations like Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park, Catch me if you can, Transformers, Munich etc... Cinemalovers take something to their home with the memories of the movie. Everybody think about the movie after going to Home. But Lincoln is not like that , I am afraid a very few people would like to see the movie again.

However, a few good things are still there in the movie - High Budget, Long Dialogues, Good Dialogues, old furnitures, Make up, Screen play, matured castes, house of representatives etc... Hero of the movie - Daniel Day Lewis was a good choice.

Munich : The Movie

In 2005 , I went to see a  movie in New Empire Kolkata , there I saw the trailer of the movie Munich. I was so fascinated by the trailer that I decided to see the movie on the first day first show. I eagerly awaited the release. All the shots in the trailers were quite superb. Then came the day , Munich released , I went to see Munich at 12 Noon Show in New Empire. Till the release of Munich , Casino Royale was already released which made Munich more famous as the hero of Casino Royale , Daniel Craig was also playing a role in Munich.

There are no words to describe the directorial art of Spielberg. His movie are always outstanding whether it is sci-fi , historic or comical… it is full of perfection. Munich is also a master piece of his hands. Munich is a long movie , Steven Spielberg has tried to cover entire story of Munich Massacre and its aftermath in a two and half hour show. The movie , as per my expectations , got ninety out of hundred. Munich is one of the best ever movies of Hollywood and one of my favourites. I have viewed it five times.

The story of the film is based on a Novel written by a canadian writer George Jonas. It is believed that, George was invited by one of the Mossad’s agent who was the leader of the team which successfully assassinated nine members of Palestinian Liberation Organisation ( PLO ). The eleven members of PLO were believed to be responsible to kill Israelian Olympic team in Munich.

 The mossad agent who narrated the entire event of aftermaths of Munich massacre is named as Avner, the leader of five members team . As per various literature the person who narrated the incidences to George, is Jual Aviv an ex- Mossad agent.  The operation carried on by the Israelis is popularly known as operation wrath of God. When the facts of such deadly operation was revealed , entire world got shocked. It was a state financed anti terrorist measure against palestinians. The main motto of the operation was only to create an atmosphere of fear among PLOs that they were also unsafe irrespective of their places of hide outs.  Both the movie and book are fabulous . If anybody is interested to know about operation wrath of God and Israeli history , the book is a must source of events. George Jonas has got good insight in understanding the politics between Israel and Palestine.

Before reading the book , I also visited the site of George Jonas where he has comapard the book and the movie.  George was writing truth however spielberg’s objective was to collect most of the events from the book. The objective of the book is to reveal truth before the world , however the objective of the movie is to make it a thriller and money making.A book can never be included in one single  movie , George was not happy at some places , because he had a different picture about the events which was not discussed with him at length. Even spielberg thought not to take any contribution of George in the movie. Spielberg , being an intelligent man , knows the difference between a producer of a movie and write of a truth speaking book. One can go through  the personal feelings of George about his book and movie at http://www.georgejonas.ca/recent_writing.aspx?id=382 

From the point of view of literature , the book Vengeance , can never get a prize. The writing skill between an english writer and a canadian writer is quite apparent. George was so busy to collect evidence and writing those in to book , he forgot to make ornamentation. However, truth is truth, neither a single less copy would have been sold , nor George wold have got less royalty. The force of truth is so powerful that the book is an internationally acclaimed book.

The movie – Munich was a joint venture between Universal Pictures and Dreamworks. The movie started with a thrill with a melancholical voice of a woman , must be an israeli opera. In the first twenty minutes , the movie shocked entire viewers showing an attack by PLO over Israeli olympic team sleeping in the olympic village. The costumes, faces of people,scenes, television, voice etc were shown as a movie of 1970′s english movie. Spielberg is a magician of modern movies.

Irma La Douce

Beautiful comedy and must watch movie " Irma La Duce " starred by Jack Lemms n and Shirley Maclaine. They also came together in hollywood classic " The Apartment".

Irma La Douce , a hooker and suspended policeman Nestor fell in love with each other after Nestor defeated the master or Irma in a bar fight.  Right from starting to end , the movie is full of comedy. As per movie , the location of movie is Paris, however only a part of movie was produced in france, the maximum part was shooted in studios only.

Funny part is - a whore feels pride to work like a hooker and feed her boy freind. Her boyfreind , Nestor protested that she should not work like a whore anymore , but Irma felt otherwise and she continued to work as a street prostitute. Nestor could not see his girl freind to be in the arms of other people and collect money from his girlfreind. He became a permanent customer of his girl friend with the help of a bar owner. Irma could not trace that her permanent english customer and her boy freind are same person as Nestor comes in a different outfit , ie. an old englishman. The movie also  has a twist dance in the bar which shows the dancing skills of Shirley Maclaine , she is looked beautiful as usual. While dancing , the energy and flexibility in the body of Shirley is seen.

The climax of the movie is also very different and full of joy. People may fall in love with a hooker and vice versa. You will enjoy the movie !!
